I finally gave up trying to make the decks I was trying work and decided to try a deck that I’ve been watching Dale play on Twitch the last few days. It’s a Scoia’Tael deck that Swim put together. I was struggling at about a 50% win rate for the last week or so. Once I started playing this deck 2 nights ago, I moved up from the 1500s and rank 5 to 1700s and rank 6 and still climbing. I moved a couple of cards in and out of the list Dale was using, but ended up settling on almost exactly what Swim has posted on GwentDB today. The only change is Geralt: Igni for Triss Merigold. I took Johnny out for a bit, but he’s too fun and sometimes, he wins games… so he’s back in.
Who is Swim? Swim is a Gwent player than has done really well in tournament play during the Gwent closed beta. He finished 5th in the Passiflora Championship and 2nd in the 1st Beta Brawl championship. He was featured by Mante in a Gwent City video not too long ago as well.
Swim posted a guide on this deck on Gwentlemen today where he details each card and why it’s in there. It’s a great read, make sure to check it out.
Swim’s deck uses Francesca but you could use Brouver Hoog instead, I prefer Fran for the cases where you don’t get any Elven Mercs to thin your deck out.
Here’s the deck list that I am using and you can click here to check out Swim’s deck.
Hawker Healer x1 – This card has won more games for me than any other card in the deck. Bouncing it with a Commando a couple times is gold.
Blue Mountain Commando x3 – The bouncy card!
Vrihedd Vanguard x2 – I love these mainly for their big body against fireball traps.
Elven Mercenary x3 – The MVP card. Thin that deck fast!
First Light x3
Mardroeme x2 – Must have against PIF and good for buffing your own Roach.
Johnny – There’s nothing more rewarding that getting Shani from your NR opponent.
King of Beggars – Use to pull out Hawker Healer and then maybe some Mercs but be careful not to pull out Roach.
Geralt: Igni – I’ve started using this one with all the Skellige buff decks being played lately.
Aglais – No explanation needed.
Milva – Swim has shared an awesome use for Milva in coordination with Johnny. Play Milva, pull out Roach, he comes to your hand, then you Johnny him for an extra silver card.
Ciri: Dash – I normally play this card at least 2 times a game! Pure gold!
I realize that my numbers are not great, but considering where I was this time last week, this is awesome. I play a lot, but I consider myself a casual player.
Like I said, this deck is awesome. I have climbed from just outside of the top 1000 to the top 500 in just 2 evenings. I was 10 games under .500 playing the ST deck and Monster Kayran decks I was playing to a few games over .500 now. Who knows how far this deck will take me before the meta shifts to counter it hard.
